Legacy Fund

The Legacy Fund operates as a committee in accordance with the bylaws of the Employee Assistance Fund.  It provides aid and assistance to widows, widowers and eligible dependents of employees, who have lost their lives while on duty, performing those duties in which they are required to uphold or while employed in a permanent capacity by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The Legacy Fund assesses the immediate, ongoing and long-term needs of the family and provides them with information, including resources available from within the Sheriff’s Office.

Such resources provided to survivors can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Bereavement and counseling services

  • Assistance with educational resources and assistance available to dependent children of survivors

  • Financial assistance with special event attendance requests, such as survivor camps, memorial ceremonies or other outings

  • Property maintenance, repair assistance, or guidance

  • Other services as deemed appropriate by the members of the Legacy Fund Committee

The Legacy Fund consists of both professional and sworn staff within the Sheriff’s Office.  In addition to working from within the Sheriff’s Office, the Committee works with organizations in the community including the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), at both the local and national level.
